About Victoria Farrow

As an Architect

Victoria is a qualified Architect and chartered with the ARB (Architects Registration Board). With over 20 years experience working within the field of architecture and design, she has worked within a range of sectors of the built environment, including but not limited to; domestic / residential, education, and hospitality / hotels. She has experience in dealing with both small private clients, working with families and couples in the development and construction of housing extensions as well larger client groups, such as the NHS, hotel chains, schools and also developers. Victoria qualified as an architect in 2008 from the University of Nottingham with an additional Masters qualification in recognition of her work for public consultation. Prior to undertaking her RIBA Part 3, Victoria achieved her Diploma in architecture (RIBA Part 2) and Bachelors degree in Architecture (Hons) (RIBA Part 1) from the University of Nottingham.

As an Educator

Victoria is an Associate Professor at Birmingham City University. She is also course leader for BA architecture (Hons) and Year 1 lead. Victoria is also registered and undertaking her PhD in architectural education at Loughborough University. With 12 years of experience working within in higher education (HE), she has built a strong foundation of connections and networks, which she uses within her teaching and also research activities. Victoria’s roles within academia not only provide the opportunity to remain up to date with the latest design trends and knowledge within the built environment, but also the ability to continue to develop skills within the fields of analogue and digital communication techniques, coordinating packages of works, management, course writing, marketing and recruitment, links with industry, BIM (Building information modelling) and design. This continues to support external practice and projects that she may become involved with. During her time as an academic, Victoria has hosted and organised a number of national and international conferences, which have drawn global attention and seen international recognition. As one of the co-founders of the network “aae” (the association of architectural educators), Victoria has forged links across the globe with schools and networks in the USA, China and South Africa. As founder of the series of events “BIM in Birmingham”, Victoria continues to build national and international links with industry and also schools of architecture around the world. Speakers at her events have included architects and BIM specialists from Zaha Hadid Architects, Foster and Partners, BIG, Grimshaws, Rogers Stirk Harbour and partners, Heatherwick Architects and many more. Victoria remains passionate about architectural education and continues to strive to improve practice and pedagogy within the field where ever an opportunity may arise. Before Birmingham City University, Victoria taught at Nottingham Trent University, Lincoln University and has also spent time teaching in the USA in Pennsylvania, Nebraska and New York, which has greatly informed her UK based teaching approaches.
